Dear PCS Dads,
The last three years I have hosted a dad's reading group. Typically we have read books that are on our upper school reading list (you know, the ones you should have read but didn't). This year we will diverting slightly from this path to read books that address the culture in which we and our children live. I hope our reading and discussions will cause us all to consider our views on and choices we make about cultural influences in our families.
Our first book is "Still Bored in a Culture of Entertainment" (sorry I can't italicize in Renweb) by Richard Winter. We have ten books available in the school office for you to purchase or you can order it on Amazon. The book is an engaging read that may cause a bit of conviction in us, but we, as thoughtful Christians should be willing to confront the culture that we are inviting into our homes and consider ways to train up counter-cultural children. Mom's you are welcome to read the book alongside your husbands, but I am sorry that this particular group is only for the men.
We will meet on Friday, October 17 at 6:30 a.m. to discuss "Still Bored in a Culture of Entertainment." We will then assign future books that will be discussed December 5, February 27, and April 24. We finish our discussions by 7:45 so you won't be too late to work.
I hope you will join us in October.
Sincerely,
Troy Wathen
Headmaster
