On Language Arts in the Grammar School..
|
|
Those interested in pursuing a classical education, regardless of
whether or not they are Christians, will most definitely look for books
of the highest literary quality. As Christians, this pursuit should be
even more fervent and far more discriminating. Paul tells the
Philippians, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble,
whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable; if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such
things.” We, as Christians have a duty, not only to fill our brains
with books, but we have a responsibility to see to it that those books
help us to dwell on the true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable,
excellent and praiseworthy.

..and Composition/ Literature in the Upper School
|

The
Composition/ Literature course is designed to advance the student’s
understanding of English grammar, to further his appreciation for and
analysis of literature, to develop his vocabulary, and to refine his
skills in original composition.
|

On Mathematics in the Grammar School...
|
|
Mathematics,
in particular, displays God’s systematic and orderly nature... Teaching
math from a Christian worldview requires that the teacher regularly
point out the glory of math and how limitless the study of math can be.

...and Mathematics in the Upper School
|
|
During
the study of transition mathematics, the student will transition from
the concrete, grammar stage of math to the abstract, logic stage of
math. Math is taught from the perspective that God created an orderly
universe, and that math reflects that orderliness. This mind set continues through the disciplines of Algebra, Geometry, pre-Calculus, and Trigonometry.

On Science in the Grammar School...
|
|
As
students of science, PCS students are taught to stand in awe of the
incredible complexity of God’s design. Rather than study science as a
completely empirical endeavor, students are trained to recognize their
reliance on God for the provision of insight into His creation.

...and Science in the Upper School
|
|
Biology
is a course in which the student will study and learn to appreciate the
wonders of God’s handiwork at all levels of biological organization.
Through the study of physical science, each student will learn the laws
God created to order the universe in the areas of physics and
chemistry. During the Rhetoric stage, the students are expected to
automatically integrate subjects, self-learn, give oral presentations,
formulate opinions about the world, and be creative in their
expression. Integration with other subjects is accomplished through
the use of literature, the placement of discoveries in a historical
context, mathematical formulas, student drawings, and the writing of
informational and creative essays.

On History in the Grammar School...
|
|
<one
of the goals> Students will be taught how to study history with a
focus on primary sources. They will be taught how to critically
evaluate reading material and apply good historical analysis methods
understanding that every writer writes from his own worldview.

...and Humanities in the Upper School
|
|
The study of Humanities includes the history of religion, philosophy,
government, literature art, music, science, and social customs. ..
special emphasis will be placed on finding the connections between
different events and forming a proper synthesis of thought. Specific
attention will be given to the worldview or philosophy held by each
civilization and its relationship to Biblical truth.
