Providence Classical School is a Christian School, operating under parental authority using the classical method to produce disciples who will impact our culture for Christ.
Providence Classical School is committed to the following principles to ensure that the vision of the school is implemented:
We are a Christian school and demonstrate our Christianity in the context of relationships. We love each other with the love of Christ, encouraging each other to begin or develop a relationship with God through Christ, and treating each other with the dignity due creatures who are made in the image of God.
We are rooted in the Word of God and teach the Scriptures of both the Old and New Testaments in such a way that students realize that the meaning and purpose of life and education are found in them and that they speak authoritatively. We acknowledge God as the source and author of all truth.
God's character is revealed not only in His Word, but is displayed in every facet of His creation. All of creation reflects His power, goodness, and order and teaches us the meaning of beauty, goodness, and truth. Because all truth is from God, the universe is coherent.
Students are encouraged to view studying as an act of worship with spiritual implications. We conduct our studies as unto God. Shabby scholarship, like shabby workmanship, brings Him no glory and is a failure to recognize His presence in our classrooms and in our lives.
Parents are regarded as their children's first and best teachers. The school operates under the authority of parents who have permitted the school to assist in the education of their children.
Classical education stresses unity of knowledge rather than the current philosophy of compartmentalization of educational disciplines. Therefore, all subjects are taught as part of an integrated whole. No absolute divisions exist between science, religion, math, the arts, history, and literature.
History is the story of God working personally in individuals and nations. History, therefore, has a purpose and a goal and does not repeat itself. Christianity grew to maturity in the west and our own culture developed within the framework of western thought. To understand the events of our world and to empower students to influence our culture, we study western civilization with all its triumphs and failures.
Literature, music, and art are the recorders of a culture's understanding of truth, goodness, and beauty. They must be studied and can best be understood against the backdrop of human history.
Science and mathematics are tangible evidence of God's orderliness. He had given us the privilege of investigating our world and struggling to understand its organization. We are free to explore creation, to marvel at the parts we come to understand, and to wonder at the facets that remain mysteries.
Good students are good thinkers. Latin, with its precision of grammar, together with formal logic, with its rigorous structure, teach students to think in orderly, productive ways. By studying these subjects, students learn to think, analyze, and reason. These subjects prepare them for advanced studies in languages, science, and religion.
Graduation from PCS marks the beginning of a student's education. Graduated students are prepared for lifelong learning and to positively affect the individuals God places in their spheres of influence.
