Mock Trial is a class in trial advocacy and has been a great success at Providence. In 2010, the PCS Mock Trial team was runner up in regional competition, and in 2011, they returned as regional champions and competed at the state level.
Mock Trial simulates real-life courtroom scenarios and teaches students how to argue a case in front of a judge and jury. Along with many other schools across the state, students receive a court case and supporting documents, and then construct arguments for both sides, prosecution and defense. Some students act as attorneys. Some are witnesses. Over the course of the semester, students study the case, whether criminal or civil, and finally compete in regional competition against other schools. Logic, debate, acting, and great speaking skills are all on display. To prepare for law school or a career as an attorney, and to tangibly apply rhetoric-stage skills, what students learn here is invaluable.
