Each year we challenge the parents of our school to read a short list of
great books from our school's reading list. We have covered titles such
as The Illiad, The Odyssey, Beowulf, and some other
culturally important books. We will be reading titles by
great Christian men of the past who have impacted our world through
their writings:
Mom's Club: Contact Janet Hall
Oct. 6 - The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis
Dec. 1 - The Outrageous Idea of Christian Scholarship by George M. Marsden
Feb. 2 - TBA
Dad's Club: Contact Timothy Pitts
Oct. 7 - The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis
Dec. 2 - The Outrageous Idea of Christian Scholarship by George M. Marsden
Feb. 3 - TBA
Meetings to discuss the books are always at 6:30 a.m. in the library and last one
hour. Of course, light refreshments will be served. I know what really gets you out of bed in the morning!
Discussions are always thought provoking and complete reading of the
book is not required.
This
year, I hope to see the spiritual lives cultivated through the exercise
of our minds in reading these excellent surveys of the human soul.
