PCS Strings Program
Laurilyn Butin, Director
The Providence Classical School Strings Program is open to all Providence students in grades K through 9 The program is directed by Laurilyn Butin, a professional violinist, experienced music educator, former violinist with the Honolulu Symphony, and SAA certified Suzuki Teacher.
Beginning and less advanced students may participate in Suzuki Strings, a Suzuki method group class for either violin or cello. More advanced students (by permission of the instructor) who have achieved the basic skills in violin or cello may become a member of the Paladin Chamber Ensemble, with the focus on performing a variety of developmentally appropriate classical music. Depending on the number and proficiency of the enrolled, classes will be divided accordingly.
Both the Suzuki Strings and Chamber Ensemble groups will perform in a Christmas Recital, PCS Concerts and their own Private Solo Recitals. The Paladin Chamber Ensemble will also have the opportunity to perform throughout the year at various school functions.
The Suzuki String classes and Paladin Chamber Ensemble class will meet two times per week for half an hour before school. Classes will begin at 7:15am and end at 7:45am. Suzuki String parents are strongly encouraged to attend the classes and observe the instruction, in order to assist their children with practice at home.
LISTENING to, PLAYING, and CREATING music in the Suzuki Group and the Paladin Chamber Ensemble will be challenging and fun, and will help foster a life-long love of rich classical music in your child. Parents are strongly encouraged to provide individual private lessons for their children, as group lessons will only take them so far in their musical training.
