End-of-Year Letter 2023-2024
Dear PCS family,
It is hard to believe that today wraps up the 2023-2024 school year. It is so gratifying to be part of a school that is helping to shape our students so they can influence their culture for Christ.
Former Harvard President Derek Bok’s assessment of U.S. colleges is bleak. In his book, Our Underachieving Colleges, he emphasizes our American colleges’ underachievement in developing character and moral reasoning, in creating a sense of citizenship, in training students to think critically, and in teaching students to communicate in written and oral forms. How exciting it is to know that we are part of a movement that solves this problem! Classical Christian education is as important as ever for the future of the Church and our nation.
We have experienced a joyous year of learning and experienced God’s goodness and faithfulness in our day-to-day experiences. The year was full of successes in academics, athletics, and fine arts. (Check out this year’s Paladin Proud newsletters for some examples! December 2023, March 2024, and May 2024). The Yearbook team provided another outstanding publication, reminding us of so many of this year’s events while also taking us on a trip back in time. I pray that looking back through the yearbook and our Paladin Proud newsletters will cause us to reflect and be thankful (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Organizationally, we are thankful for continued growth. It was great to begin using our new library, stage, classroom, locker rooms, and weight room. It was also humbling to see a group of parents and faculty members come on campus over a break to help clear trees and underbrush to install a new fence, adding further security to our campus.
This summer, we will see a few more exciting changes. Each quad will get a fresh coat of paint, and we will soon see pickleball and four-square lines painted on the pavilion! We will also begin to see some changes on our campus to align with our updated logos. New cameras have already been ordered for the front gate, enabling our community to use toll tag stickers or an RFID sticker to gain access to the campus. Moreover, this summer will be filled with preparations for our new Upper School schedule and our new parent educational opportunities.
Accomplishing the PCS vision takes our entire community of faculty, staff, coaches, students, parents, grandparents, friends, volunteers, and all who care for our facilities. It is our joy and privilege to partner with you, our school families, in the education and formation of your children.
As we enter the summer months, we have a chance to slow down a bit. Let’s take the time to rest and to enjoy life with our loved ones (Ecclesiastes 9:7-10, 11:9-10).
Semper excelsior ad gloriam Dei
